Russia is not just the largest country in the world by land; it is also the most popular choice for international students to study MBBS. From sunny beaches to breathtaking mountains, Russia is a country blessed with scenic beauty. Located in Eastern Europe, the Russian education system is ranked 26th in the world. It is one of the top study destinations for students wanting to peruse MBBS in Europe. Students from the neighboring parts of the UK and the US travel to Russia to study MBBS Abroad.

There are almost 57 medical universities in Russia that offer a wide variety of programmes in various streams of education. Medicine undeniably tops all of them. Some estimates show that more than 50% of the international community in Russia is inclined towards studying medicine.

Here are a couple of things that you need to know if you’re planning to go to Russia to continue your MBBS in Abroad.

Cost-Efficient

Five years of medical studies is an expensive affair in India, and that’s where Russia comes into the picture. Despite the availability of opportunities in the US and the UK, it can turn out to be an expensive affair. In Russia, fees can turn out to be a fraction of what students pay in other destinations. To give you an idea, it can turn out to be 2800 USD to 4300 USD annually. This figure varies as per the programmes chosen within the field of medicine. Russia offers you every course that you could ask for. Also, unlike other countries, IELTS and TOEFL are not required to practice medicine in Russia.

Familiar mode of communication

There is an array of universities in Russia using English as their primary mode of communication. English is a widely recognised universal language, and luckily, many Russian universities have started offering medical degree programmes in English. This is especially beneficial for Indian students as they are familiar and used to the language.

Accommodation

Universities in Russia provide well-maintained and comfortable hostels for students to ensure a homely atmosphere. Weather in Russia is usually cold, and so hostels have centrally heated systems that come with attached bathrooms and kitchens. Basic facilities like canteens, laundry and reading rooms are easily provided to students. Good security systems with guards and reception for queries are a given.

Easy application procedure

The application procedure is the most daunting experience for students. The whole process of getting medical admission to Russian universities is pretty straightforward. There is no requirement for clearing any competitive exams while getting into a medical college in Russia. Colleges don’t even ask for a high donation fee. The duration of the course in Russia is eight years, compared to six years in India. The final degree received is MD in Medicine, while the degree provided in India is MBBS in Medicine.

As a general eligibility criterion, Indian students must score more than 50% marks in their 12th standard, preferably from a science stream with subjects like Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, and get an Eligibility Certificate issued by MCI at the time of admission if they don’t wish to appear for NEET.

International Exposure

Apart from getting access to world-class facilities, medical students get the opportunity to interact with students from all over the world, get exposed to alternative cultures and broaden their horizons. Universities in Russia are also compliant with the education boards of the US and EU standards, which makes it easier for students to go and practice medicine in those countries.
